Currently seeking applications from PhD candidates across a range of subjects from: Semiotics, Human Computer Interaction, Interaction Design, Photography, Visual Communication, Visual Story Telling, Data Visualisation and Creativity Support.<br/><br/>My special interest, is in the field of Practice Based Interactive Visuals, Live Visuals, Audio Visualisation and Visual Music. I would be particularly interested to receive applications in this area.

Dr O’Neill is currently a Reader at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design (DJCAD), Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, University of Dundee.
He has had a number of senior and middle managements roles at School level, including: PGR co-ordinator, REF21 UoA32 co-ordinator, Acting Associate Dean of Research, Head of Commuication Design, Acting Head of Learning and Teaching and Programme leader of Interaction Design.
He has worked on a number of Human Computer Interaction and Interaction Design projects that explore user sense making processes and creative activities (BENOGO, EU Presence Initiative, IST-2001-39184; Leonardo: Culture Creativity and Interaction Design, EPSRC GR/T21042/0; Making Sense of Creative Interactions, EPSRC F053029/1; The Arts API Project, Nesta Digital Research and Development Fund).
His expertise lies in the area of semiotics and creative computing. He is Author of “Interactive Media: The Semiotics of Embodied Interaction (published by Springer, 2008), as well as many other papers across a range of related subjects.
His special area of interest is in practice based explorations of computer supported interactive visuals, live visuals, visual music and integrated audio/visual systems for live performance. His research focus is to better understand the relationship between creative people, creative processes and creative technologies.
