Biography
Shalini is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Dundee, School of Medicine within the undergraduate and postgraduate educational programmes. She is a highly experienced faculty, involved in curriculum planning, development and delivery within the Dundee MBChB programme. She provides teaching and educational supervision, enhancing the learning environment through contributing to Medical Pharmacology teaching and leading the Transfer Programme for overseas medical students. Shalini has a varied background and professional qualifications including MBBS (Primary Medical Qualification) from India, MD and DNB (Postgraduate Specialist Medical Qualifications) in Pharmacology, Masters in Medical Education (Distinction) and Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Shalini is currently an External Examiner for Birmingham Medical School (Year 5 MBChB), University of Glasgow (MSc Health Professions Education) and University of Kurdistan Hewler, Iraq (Year 2 MBBS).
Shalini is passionate about teaching and research, and considers it a real privilege to work with dedicated and keen students.
Teaching
Pharmacology Theme Lead (MBChB)
Shalini is involved in developing, delivering and evaluation of Medical Pharmacology teaching in the undergraduate curriculum, to prepare medical students for their prescribing role as foundation doctors. She contributes to curriculum review, ensuring optimum horizontal and vertical integration of the teaching activities to meet the GMC outcomes for graduates. She also oversees the Pharmacology stream of the biomed submissions, and is a member of the Prescribing Curriculum Group.
Academic Lead for Transfer Programme (MBChB)
Shalini leads the organization of the academic support programme for students transferring into the Dundee MBChB course midway (Year 3) from partner universities - International Medical University (Malaysia), St Andrew’s University (UK) and Universiti Brunei Darussalam.
Postgraduate Medical Education Programme, CME
Shalini is involved in facilitating workshops for postgraduate students, assessments and feedback on the PG Certificate and MSc (Health Professions Education) programmes, which influence health professionals’ development as educators across the globe.
BMSc Intercalated Degree Programme
Shalini is a faculty and research supervisor with the Medical Education BMSc programme, which is accredited by Advance HE Academy. Her role includes facilitating workshops on research methodologies and skills, and supervising students through project design, ethical considerations, research execution and dissertation writing. Shalini has supervised several thesis to completion in first and second supervisor capacity.
Mentoring and Reviewing
Shalini is a Professional Learning Framework (Advance HE fellowship) Reviewer and Mentor, supporting the University staff in advancing their professional development and gaining recognition of the prestigious academy. She has been a mentor with PeerConnections in the past, supporting postgraduate research students.
NHS E-portfolio Assessment
Shalini is a portfolio assessor, providing longitudinal supportive supervision to senior medical students ensuring that the GMC Outcomes for graduates (Tomorrow’s Doctors, 2018) are appropriately met and evidenced.
