Dr. Siyu Liu is a Lecturer (Teaching and Research) in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Dundee. He obtained his Ph.D. from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at McGill University in Canada. His doctoral research focused on the fabrication and mechanical properties of graphene oxide paper-like materials and 3D structures. He is skilled in mechanical properties of 2D materials and various manufacturing techniques including 3D printing, plastic forming, and high-resolution laser cutting. He also has experience in various characterization methods for morphology and surface chemistry, such as scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and contact angle measurement. After completing his Ph.D. and before joining the University of Dundee, he worked at a scientific and engineering consulting firm- Exponent, Hong Kong office. He was involved in various industrial projects, primarily focusing on failure analysis, safety design review, and international litigation and arbitration.
His current research interests include 2D materials, nanocomposites, mechanical properties, and plastic forming. In terms of teaching, he is the module lead and course instructor for DI32013 Advanced Solid Mechanics and DI21003 Computer Aided Design.
