Personal profile


Song Xue is a PhD candidate (3rd year) in the School of Education and Social Work. His supervisors are Prof. Keith Topping (the first supervisor) and Dr. Liz Lakin (the second supervisor). His tentative doctoral thesis title is developing the Pre-service science teachers’ modelling competence through technology-supported model scenarios.

Before starting the doctoral project, he obtained educational degrees in China: Chemistry (BSc) and Education (MA) and received the National Teaching Chemistry Certificate in grades 10-12. His research interests are:

  • Modelling competence in science education
  • Modelling-based teaching and learning (K-12 and preservice teachers)
  • Technology supported learning science 

Song maintains a close connection with worldwide scholars in the field of science education in the US, UK, Canada, Germany, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. He looks forward to working with people from all across the world who are interested in STEM education in the future.
