Biography

Suzanne gained a BSc in Chemistry at the University of Southampton, and then worked at a government research institute in Norwich before moving to the University of Cambridge where she did her PhD in MRI scanner. In 2007, she was awarded a Wellcome Re-entry Fellowship at the University of Dundee to study disease development and treatments using clinical and preclinical MRI. Since 2014, Suzanne joined the Jalview team at the School of Life Sciences. In addition to running training workshops and public outreach events, she has produced a range of Jalview YouTube videos and has designed several web-based resources for school pupils to view and interact with DNA, RNA and proteins www.jalview.org/school-resources. Suzanne has participated in a wide range of public engagement activities and helps organise several ‘Open Doors’ days at the University of Dundee. She has taken part in the International Society for Neglected Tropical Diseases Festival in London and won several awards in this area of science communication. In 2019, she won the School of Life Sciences’ Brian Cox Public Engagement Project of the Year award for the children’s illustrated book ‘Kirsty’s Project: Searching for a New Medicine’ and 2020 she won the award for her outreach work with Jalview. Her Sci*Art and photographs have been exhibited in galleries across Dundee and also in London. One of these images was featured on the front cover of the Journal of Medicinal Chemistry.
