Biography
Dr Tong Zhu is a Lecturer in Energy Economics at Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy. Her research interests lie within the fields of Energy and Environmental Economics, Industrial Organisation and Economic Geography. Tong’s recent works look at firm responses to enhanced enforcement of environmental regulations, and local economic effects of natural resource booms. Other ongoing projects include modelling behavioural barriers in uptake renewable heating technologies, disentangling the behavioural channels behind consumer reactions to policy instruments for climate change, and green trade. Before joining the Centre in 2021, Tong was a post-doctoral researcher working on several research projects funded by the European Commission, the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland, the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China. Tong holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Birmingham, and was awarded the Michael K. O’Rourke PhD Best Publication Award. Her PhD research was funded by the Economic and Social Research Council, and examined firm behaviour under environmental constraints.
