Biography

Yvonne Evans joined the School of Law as a Lecturer (Teaching and Scholarship) in August 2013. She is a graduate of the University of Edinburgh and a qualified solicitor.

After her Diploma in Legal Practice, she trained as a solicitor at a major Scottish firm. She then spent 6 years as a private client solicitor at another large firm in Edinburgh, specialising in trusts, succession and tax planning. Latterly she was an Associate with Professional Support Lawyer duties, responsible for CPD, knowledge management and research. She was involved in negotiations with HMRC over tax liabilities and residency, high value divorce actions and trust variation petitions in the Court of Session.

Yvonne is a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners, having passed the STEP Diploma with Distinction. She was a part-time tutor on the Tax/Revenue Law ordinary course at the University of Edinburgh for nine years.

Research

Yvonne is particularly interested in tax law and trusts. She has presented on Personal Injury Trusts at CPD seminars. She published an article on this topic in the Journal of the Law Society of Scotland, which was cited in D's Parent and Guardian v Greater Glasgow Health Board 2011 SLT 1137. She has been quoted in press articles on personal injury compensation awards and tax planning for spouses/civil partners.
