Biography

Dr McElhinney is an academic General Practitioner working in both clinical and academic General Practice in Tayside. She is involved in undergraduate and postgraduate education in General Practice, and her current roles at the university are Year 4 GP placement academic lead and deputy head of the GP Undergraduate Education team. 
 
Dr McElhinney graduated from GKT Medical School (King's College, London) in 2000 and went on to gain DRCOG, DCH (Glasgow) DFSRH, MRCGP and MMEd. She is a Fellow of the Royal College of General Practitioners.
 

Research interests

Current research interests include GP academic careers, General Practice based medical education including Longitudinal Integrated Clerkships, doctors' training needs in relation to women's health provision,  and the use of narrative methods in medical education research. Dr McElhinney also has an interest in medical humanities and is a member of the Scottish Medical Humanities group.
