    Abstract

Yb:KGd(WO4)2 (Yb:KGW) laser, a diode-pumpable gain material is suitable for high-power femtosecond lasers as it combines a broad amplification bandwidth with relatively large emission cross section and good thermal properties. An average power of 1.1 W is obtained in transform-limited soliton pulses with 176 fs duration at a center wavelength of 1037 nm. With this performance, the laser is used for three photon microscopy, nonlinear spectroscopy, or for pumping optical parametrical oscillators.
