    Abstract

There is a palpable and greater sense of togetherness, of participation and collective action across the landscape of international research. This quality is magnificently discerning. It is deeply empathetic to both the capabilities and inadequacies of design and its research. It is also wildly difficult at times, requiring bravery, courage, and humility to ascertain where design can help but also hinder progress in its largest sense.

Design is innately concerned with community and it is no surprise to see this distinctive characteristic receive much focus and attention, as this quality can provide genuine insights and a sense of place in time.
