Abstract
A summary of the voluntary system of control operated through tax concessions and grant aid, and administered by the Forestry Commission and the Regional Advisory Committees. The author points out that this process is coming under increasing criticism, notably because the public is excluded. He also comments on the new possibility of examining forestry proposals via Environmental Assessment, proposals to bring forestry under planning control and the changes to forestry policy and taxation announced in the spring of 1988. -A.Gilg
