Abstract

By Invitation

From the press release: “Glasgow-based artist Mick Peter transforms imagery from fiction, illustration and graphic design, liberating images from the flat surface of the page to create witty and exuberant sculptures. His drawings are transformed in scale and remade in substantial materials resulting objects that, despite their robustness, have an uneasy feeling about them, as though they are not yet entirely complete. Out of context and scaled-up their familiarity is stripped away. For GENERATION, Peter has created a pair of ‘folded’ sculptures for The Hidden Gardens. In this instance the characters are stylised hippies who have taken up residence on the lawn, their ‘flying carpets’ a pair of tasselled rugs. The backdrop provides a counterpoint to their connection to drawing, an arrangement which creates a three-dimensional collage”.
