Frances Stevenson, Josephine Steed

    Research output: Book/ReportBook

    Abstract

The book articulates textile design as a method giving insight into fundamental aspects and offering detailed accounts of how these are developed in practice by designers working in a variety of creative contexts. In offering an analysis of innovative creative methods and methodologies undertaken by contemporary textile practitioners, and drawing on both industrial and academic contexts, the book presents a unique analysis of the principles underpinning ideas for new textile design. These principles are the individual and inter-related concepts of colour, pattern, surface, structure and texture. In doing so, the discourse exemplifies the values inherent within textile design, and presents textile design as a creative method for making an object of cultural beauty.
