    Abstract

Development of a new accessible and user-friendly guide able to assist in the determination of Best Practicable Environmental Options (BPEOs) for demolition waste is discussed. The paper explores the key aspects of this new practitioner's guide to the management of the waste-stream of construction demolition arisings. The guide is divided into several constituent material categorisations which are, in turn, examined in terms of their specific disposal alternatives. Each disposal alternative is assessed in terms of its environmental impact, measured in eco-points. Development of this new BPEO shall allow quick comparisons to be made by those charged with disposal responsibilities and, the opportunity to cross-reference preferred options with a detailed environmental justification.
