Caressing the marble and stone (Iteration 1)

This artist book explores the transformation of the envisioned First World War heterotopia of 1914 into the Western Front trench heterotopia of 1914-1918. I am interested in how the Western Front trench can uniquely connect language heterotopias and space heterotopias through individual bodily experiences.

This work is part of my ongoing research into colonial histories. I am interested in how experimental printed matter can reflect on the legacies of imperial conflicts and the borders created which still impact the world today.

‘Caressing the marble and stone’ is an ongoing transformation based project. It is an artist book in flux which will see me remake and transform the book as different iterations. The book’s title is a line from a Joy Division song which relates to content of the essay and the formation of the project.
