note = "Commissioned by Fonds BKVB, Foundation for Visual Art, Design and Architecture, Amsterdam (main funding body for visual artists, designers and architects in the Netherlands) to curate a major presentation of works by 120 visual artists, designers and architects, each of whom was awarded a grant by the Foundation between 1999 and 2001. After selecting the participants Janssen worked closely together with M2R, Office for Spatial Design, Rotterdam to develop an exhibition design that reflected his curatorial approach. Loosely organised around issues such as social responsibility, commitment, engagement, interaction, collaboration, exchange, communication and interdisciplinarity the aim of the exhibition was to present different practices and overlaps between practitioners in the different disciplines. Further aims were to show that methods of production and presentation have changed in the last decade: terms such as exhibition and presentation are no longer sufficient to describe the wide range of activities undertaken as part of contemporary art and design practice. To reflect the internationalism stimulated by the Dutch funding climate and Dutch society{\textquoteright}s development to an intercultural society, the exhibition included the contribution made by practitioners resident in, but not originally from, the Netherlands. Commitment brought together a broad variety of approaches, activities and artefacts. A parallel programme of lectures, tours and online events complemented the exhibition.
