    Abstract

The conference was opened by Kevin Frediani. He explained that as a former resident and Operations Manager at the National Trust for Scotland based out of Inverewe, he was part of the initial working group that helped explore the concept of the Wester Ross Biosphere. He said today he looks at the biosphere organisation as a way of “helping to explore the interconnections of biodiversity and people, informing and facilitating discussion, to progress a sustainable place together with its community. The outcome to create a sustainable, inclusive place where people live, work and play in harmony with nature.” Natasha Hutchison, General Manager of WRB introduced delegates to the Biosphere, including work to date and its potential as a lever for funding and offering a collective voice to influence and provide a safe space to network and share good practice and experiences that overcome local problems that have collective global significance when overcome sustainably.
