    Abstract

    Journal of Experimental Botany (2016) 67 (6): 1613–1623 doi: 10.1093/jxb/erw012

The above authors would like to note that on page 1614 of their Commentary article on Shinde et al. (2015), it is stated that there could be CO2 production from the peat pellets used in culturing the moss. However, Shinde et al. (2015) are clear in their Materials and Methods section that sterile water was used in homogenizing the moss protonemata, and that sterile procedures were used thereafter in inoculating the sterile peat pellets with the moss and in culturing the moss in the various gas regimes.
