Abstract
Exhibition Venue: Matthew Gallery, Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, Dundee, United Kingdom
Exhibition Dates: 15/03/2024 - 24/03/2024
Crawford Overlay is a series of hypothetical sculptural interventions that respond to the borderline absurd idea of ramping the Crawford Building at University of Dundee. Long a cherished space due to its thriving studios, workshops and chess board floors, the building is also tangle of stairs, bridges and corridors that can be arduous to navigate.
These responses extend from a period of research around inaccessible historic architecture that were first undertaken in Glasgow for Glasgow International 2021, and recognise current conversations to rebuild the Crawford as a fit for purpose space. The works consider how we might get in and out of the current building with due consideration to every pram, limp, stick or wheel that approaches it.
