    Abstract

This paper explores theoretical perspectives relating to formal, non-formal and informal methodologies within the school context. Results are reported from a small-scale research study involving community education students, teaching staff and school based Community Learning and Development (CLD) workers. The findings are analysed against the backdrop of the curriculum for excellence, youth work process and the possible development of critical pedagogy.
