title = "Designing a physical environment for co-experience and assessing participant use",
keywords = "Design, Environmental planning",
author = "Marlene Ivey and Sanders, \{E. B.-N.\}",
note = "This publication resulted from an AHRC funded project Experimenting with the Co-experience Environment (PI Ivey) which aimed to question the impact of environments designed specifically for collective creativity. Using participatory design and action research, a prototype environment designed specifically for co-creativity explored the potential for developing design knowledge in collaboration with an interdisciplinary group of participants. The Co-experience research began in June 2005 and progressed through to a research exposition (7-16 December 2005) - Ivey M (2005) Experimenting with the Co-experience Environment. Dundee: Visual Research Centre, Dundee Contemporary Arts (see www.vrc.dundee.ac.uk) and www.creativekit.co.uk, a website launched in June 2006 to disseminate the research project process and outcomes. In collaboration with Professor Tom Inns the research outcomes from the Co-experience Environment were mapped alongside the outcomes of Prof Inns' AHRC funded research 'Designing the 21st century: Interdisciplinary Discussion and Synthesis in a Shared Environment'. The collaboration resulted in an exhibition titled 'Theatres for Thinking'. The Co-experience experiment resulted in further outcomes. Ivey, M et al (2007) 'Equitable' Collaboration in Participatory Design Research{\textquoteright} was published in the proceedings of the European Academy of Design 11-13 April 2007, Izmir University of Economics, Turkey. This paper, written in collaboration with Dr Sanders and the Co-experience participants, offers recommendations that might influence approaches to engaging participants in design research and experimentation. dc.description.sponsorship: Arts \& Humanities Research Council (AHRC) coverage.spatial: {"}Theatres for Thinking{"} - Wonderground Research Exhibition, Lisbon, 1st - 4th November 2006 dc.isbasedon: Inns, T., ed.
