N2 - This paper aims to give an overview of the techniques of offender profiling used both in the United States of America and in the United Kingdom. It aims to show how the various methods are used in offender profiling to help the police in their inquiries. It offers a brief description of each technique commonly used and emphasises the differences between methods used in the USA and in the UK. The paper is aimed at those in the field of forensic science and associated fields to whom the concept of 'offender profiling' is relatively new.
