N2 - An annual group exhibition of research projects (outcomes and in-progress) showcasing the research community (staff and PhD researchers) across the School of Art & Design, Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design. Curated by DJCAD's Baxter Fellow in Curatorial Practice, Judit Bodor. Contributing artist, Alex Roberts presented, three painted drawings (wall mounted, watercolour, and pencil on translucent paper) measuring 17 x 12cm (unframed). The female subjects, titled, Zeit I (2022), Knowing VI (2021) and Surface VI (2020) provided an insight into initial sketches that evolve to larger transformed, painted research. The small artworks examine differing ages of female façades, probe at experience; aiming to expose an un-fixedness of witnessed, projected, and speculated portraits and empathetic gestures. Exploring painted unease between what is public and what is private: how, in today’s digital world, appearance often contrasts with reality and sociability belies intimacy.
