Abstract
Development work for FOREIGN VESSEL, part of the (w)ORD Residency EBBE+FLOW Travelling exhibition.
FOREIGN VESSEL is a comment on our ongoing plastic consumption and how we use the Oceans for its disposal.
The Vessels are carved from Locally sourced wood and Cannel coal, reflecting the universal form of the plastic Drink Bottle.
The wood content references the Shipping vessels that have historically, culturally and commercially travelled between Norway and Scotland.
The Cannel Coal references the sedimentary geology of the North Sea between the two lands and the contemporary Oil, Gas and Shale Gas industries that have contributed to the wealth of their respective inhabitants and the rigs and platforms that now punctuate our colonisation of the Seas.
