    Abstract

The exhibition brought together everything we've learned about women's activism in the North of England over the last 100 years, showcasing campaigns led by women from Yorkshire, Lancashire, Manchester, Cumbria, Durham and Newcastle.

Empowering Women, Empower Women told the stories of women involved in a wide range of activist movements. From Women Against Pit Closures to the WI Keep Britain Tidy campaign, the Leeds Clothing Strike and anti-fracking activism.

The exhibition showed how women have challenged power and changed policies in creative and controversial ways, demonstrating how they challenged attitudes about women’s role in activism, changed the places where they live and work, and created new sites and forms of resistance.
