    Abstract

galataPerform is an independent theatre space in the Galata district of Istanbul. As well as programming experimental works of theatre, they have a growing programme of performance art and electro-acoustic music. A visibility project was conceived by the Director to raise the awareness of not only the theatre, but of other groups & artists within the Galata area: this was done in order that artists, writers and musicians within the District could conceivably share a broader sense of participation in the community in general, at the same time as providing a forum/event for the discussion & dissemination of practice and collaborative opportunity. Henderson was invited to contribute to this context as an international visitor. The work he made translated research that he was doing on performance to-camera in other areas of his practice. This was done by taking private to-camera action, set and filmed in the landscape of Perthshire, Scotland into a public, social space, where audience interaction became critical in helping create the work . The to-camera digital video work of the same title was subsequently seen at the National Review of Live Art 2006, Glasgow between 8th –12th February 2006, and at the artist-run-space, CARNI, Melbourne, Australia (25th May – 8 June, 2006). Estate refers to the condition in which somebody lives their life visibility; wakefulness; soil; climate; family. As in other recent work, Estate drew upon aspects of conventional theatre, the actions attempting at some kind of reconciliation of persona with a state of growth.
