note = "Hatfield curated a major retrospective of expanded and single-screen film, video and digital moving image by artists from the late 1960's to date. This was unique in the national and international context in that it was an intensive chronological programme of experimental moving-image which over seven days, provided a rare opportunity to view a large body of rich and diverse work across a history spanning forty years. Dr Jackie Hatfield had unique access to the Lumiere cinema at the University of Westminster, Regent St, where in 1896 Louis Lumiere gave his first public demonstration in the UK of the then revolutionary moving-image. It was an apt context for a survey to instigate debate around the plurality of moving image experiment that has taken place historically and to date. It was a unique context to review technological invention, spectacle, interactivity, performance and narrative exploration providing artists with an enormous screen space within a historically important cinematic context in central London. Internationally renowned artists donated their writing for the catalogue and their work for screening i.e. Malcolm Le Grice, Peter Gidal, Robert Whitman, William Raban, Maria Klonaris and Katerina Thomadaki, John Smith, Cordelia Swann, Sarah Pucill, Tina Keane etc. The show took place over a week, curated by Hatfield into a daily changing programme from 11.00am until the evening. coverage.spatial: Old {"}Lumiere{"} Cinema, University of Westminster, London, 25th - 31st January 2004 dc.isbasedon: Exhibition catalogue - Hatfield, J. and Littman, S., eds.
