Abstract

Exploring a Landscape
Dr Paul Harrison

CH Waddington was a Developmental Biologist credited with laying the foundations of Systems Biology, Epigenetics and Evolutionary Developmental Biology. Perhaps his most celebrated achievement was the concept of the Epigenetic Landscape – for which he developed a visual metaphor that has become something of an icon. He was based, for most of his career, at Edinburgh University where an archive of his work is currently held in their Special Collections. Dr Paul Harrison, Artist and Lecturer at the University of Dundee, has worked with this archive as part of a European Network initiative titled EpiGeneSys. Paul will talk about this research and present a small exhibition of the artworks that evolved from this project.
