Abstract

Guide: Run your own ‘Climate Change: An Obstacle for Everyone’ Activity was created by BARIToNE funded PhD students as part of their public engagement training programme with the activities presented at Plant Power 2025.

This activity is suitable for children above the age of 5.

This is a how-to guide for setting up and running a learning activity to educate children about how climate change is impacting farming systems. The activity involves a series of obstacle courses designed to teach children how a farmer’s yield can be affected by climate change-induced extreme weather conditions. The activity is best run with 3 children, each running an obstacle course at the same time to introduce a competitive element. This activity guide also includes a printable worksheet in the appendix which can be handed out at the end of the activity.
