Abstract
There are approximately 7400 young people between the aged of 13-17 in Dundee. This project focusses on bringing young people, the beneficiaries of future healthcare, into crucial conversations around health and care systems and services.
Given our increasingly ageing population, together with rising
treatment costs, it is critical that future healthcare services can meet healthcare needs, which are likely to be multiple, complex, and unique to individuals. Investing in young people’s health can have many benefits including improving health and wellbeing and supporting behaviour change, reducing health inequalities and improving access to and the experience of services for young
people.
In this exhibition, we showcase the wonderful creations of 18 young people living in Dundee who worked in groups to imagine and invent health products for the year 2049 - when they are 25
years older! The young designers of the Futures Collective worked through a three-hour speculative design workshop with University of Dundee researchers.
They reflected on the activities they enjoy doing now and imagined how these might change over time, and what their future health priorities may be. They then came up with ideas for future healthcare inventions for these imaginary futures by sketching and describing them, before selecting an idea to develop and make with craft materials. This exhibition showcases
what these young people have created in a very short time frame.
Please enjoy browsing these innovations for the year 2049 to
support your future health and wellbeing! Hopefully these concepts inspire some ideas of your own and if you would like to submit an idea to the project, please take a worksheet form the kiosk and get involved!
We would like to thank the young people who participated in the
workshops, the whole team at the Central Library (Leisure and Culture Dundee) and the University of Dundee.
This project was funded by a University of Dundee Collaborate for Impact grant.
