Abstract
Performance Venue: Matthew Galleries, DJCAD, Dundee, UK
Performance Date: 2 April 2024 - 4 April 2024
Performance curated as part of HISTORY/REALITY: An Installation of The Attic Archive, 2-4 April 2024, DJCAD, UoD. The performance happened at the preview event on 4th April, at 7.15 pm.
Bodor invited Laurie to encourage a new generation of artists engagement with The Attic Archive (artist archive established in the 1970s by Pete Horobin). Laurie didn’t have a relationship to The Attic Archive prior to being introduced to it by Bodor. The performance was developed in conversation with Bodor in response to themes that resonated with Laurie while engaging with works in the Attic Archive.
The performance was be a deeply personal yet relatable exploration of identity to reconsider the boundaries and intersections of the role’s women play in society. The artist aimed to offer both a critique of societal expectations and a celebration of the resilience aligning with the principles of The Attic Archive to democratise art and challenges traditional notions of artistic production and distribution.
Laurie McInally is a Glasgow-born, Dundee-based, working-class multi-media artist. And mother. Her work explores internalised views on gender, class and sexuality while challenging the social structures that inherently feed these attitudes.
