Abstract

This chapter considers the applicability of international treaties, such as the 1999 Montreal Convention and the 1952 Rome Convention, to UAS operations. These treaties, traditionally covering contractual and third-party liabilities in manned aviation, are scrutinised for their relevance and potential adaptation to unmanned aircraft. The discussion extends to the nuances of these conventions, addressing issues from damage compensation to the operational risks associated with UAS. The chapter analysis highlights the complexities and evolving nature of international aviation law as it adapts to new technologies.
