N1 - An ongoing found sound project that explores an evolving theme of society and recorded music. 'MMM' collects and listens to pieces of audio tape found in the environment (pieces of audio tape that have escaped from broken cassettes and wrap themselves around trees, street furniture etc). These fragments of music/sound are then mixed with other recordings to make an art work eg radio programme, sound installation and book/CD publication. Each output develops different research foci using newly collected audio material. Areas explored over the last five years of MMM include, population migration, culture clash, music sharing culture, forensic audio practices, recycling, redundant technology and analogue audio performance. The website is at the heart of the project, providing an MP3 download of raw found sound as well as information on the current and past foci of the project. Selection of 'MMM' exhibitions, broadcasts and performances: 'MMM-Forensic Noise Lab' a 3 day Live lab, exploring ideas of noise & signal in relation to forensic audio practices at Kiasma Museum, Helsinki Finland as part of the Avanto Festival 17 – 19 Nov. 2006, an annual experimental music, film and installation event, other participants included Tony Conrad, Luke Fowler, Lea Ranahldo (Sonic Youth) and Jim O’Rourke. 'MMM-Goutte d’Or' (Paris Nuit Blanche), a sound walk around a multiethnic area of Paris created from tape found in the area and analysis provided by local residents, part of Project 101’s contribution to Nuit Blanche, October 2005 Paris. 'MMM-7HINGS' Live performance & net label release, using live mixing with analogue technology creating a sound work that functions in the conventions of a radio story.
