Abstract

This is the protocol for a review and there is no abstract. The objectives are as follows: To evaluate the effectiveness of mechanical interdental cleaning (flossing, interdental brushing, tooth cleaning sticks and stimulators, oral irrigators), in addition to toothbrushing, compared with toothbrushing alone, for the prevention and control of: 1. periodontal diseases (gingivitis and periodontitis) 2. dental caries 3. dental plaque This also includes assessing the safety of mechanical interdental cleaning procedures, in terms of harms and adverse effects, balancing important benefits against important harms. A secondary objective will compare the different mechanical cleaning procedures with each other.
