Abstract
This book contains 12 papers from the 4th Symposium of the Society for General Microbiology, held in Cardiff 1992 to address the use of microbial techniques for pollution control. The early papers set the general scene as perceived by industrialists and academics, describing the application of such techniques for the solution of a diverse array of environmental problems. Papers then address the application to specific pollutants (xenobiotics, heavy metals, radionuclides, cyanide, polymers) and to specific processes (land reclamation, water treatment, marine oil spill treatment).
