    Abstract

Numerical simulations based on Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) are performed to investigate the fluid-structure interaction of trees subjected to wind loads. Pressure and velocity fields including mechanical effects on tree trunks are compared between gentle breeze and severe tropical storm conditions and it is observed that tree damage is likely to occur for the latter.
