    Abstract

    Exhibition Dates: 15-18 Sept 2022
    Exhibition Venue: KHBStudios

Once Guarded presents eight artists who have already featured in the Berlin issue #3 2021 of the magazine ever_emerging_mag. The edition, published in a time of lockdown, featured these eight Berlin based women artists under the themes of Facades, Borders and Domesticity. One year later, the same artists come together in the space of KHBStudios Berlin, this time, presenting their work beyond borders, domesticity, and facades. This exhibition celebrates the opening up of the cultural sector and the coming together of diverse artists after two years of being ‘guarded’.

Working with the possibilities of the KHBStudios with a remit of, no new wall fixings, Alex Roberts tested the site-relational challenge by installing a painting with a dropped suspension. The artwork was hung off fishing wire from an above pre-existing conduit within the gallery. Resulting, the chance for the diptych to float marginally away from the wall and provide light access to the artwork's transparent properties.

Often working with female subjects, Knowing IX probes experience. The Knowing Series: via the play of paint, a reflective succession of absorbing, mature women, personalities are spurring an inquiry/ dialogue about how personal understanding, gathered from age is, or is not revealed.

ever_emerging_mag is a magazine that presents only women artists over 45 years old, founded by Marguerite Nolan. The platform is born out of her desire to uplift older women artists while highlighting emergence as a life-long endeavour that is not always related to age. With several editions, exhibitions, panel discussions, and recently released print edition under their belt, ever_emerging_mag continues to grow and create discourse around preconceptions on age, competence, and ambition regarding older femxle artists in creative industries.

Objectives, testing studio research in Alex’s home/ main studio city, Berlin, met. Aligning the presentation of Alex’s practice amongst an international female context. Developing and strengthening her expanding Berlin contemporary art networks.
