Overview of 1B: Entrepreneurial perspectives on Asian-Pacific Cooperatives

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceeding › Chapter

    Abstract

The cooperative enterprise model in the Asia-Pacific region has traditionally been understood through a socio-economic or solidarity economy lens (Birchall, 2011; ICA, 2021). However, when examined through entrepreneurial perspectives, cooperatives emerge not simply as redistributive or mutual aid organizations, but as dynamic, opportunity-driven enterprises that actively innovate, compete, and adapt within changing environments (Altman, 2010, 2015, 2020; Perotin, 2006; Spear, 2000). This section explores the entrepreneurial dimensions of Asian-Pacific cooperatives, highlighting how they leverage organizational design, social capital, strategic scaling, and generational renewal to sustain and enhance their relevance and competitveness.
