    Abstract

In this article I examine the problem of institutionalization of political parties in the Russian regions and trace the development of the party system with a period of rapid fragmentation and volatility under Yeltsin to the current monopoly of power that occurred under Vladimir Putin and Dmitry Medvedev. In particular, I am interested in party representation in regional assemblies
