Abstract
In some ways you can think of this book as an introduction to craft research - a new form of craft practice - with an alternative approach to developing craft and its economy in the twenty-first century. It is based on a five-year research project conducted under the framework of a succesful grant application by the editors to the Arts and Humanities Research Council (2004), which posed the following question: Is there a future role for craft? It is also based on our work as craft practitioners; Louise's as a textile designer with 15 years experience in applying her design thinking across a spectrum of creative and management activities and, Georgina's work as an enameller specialising in plique-à-jour for over 30 years.
