    Abstract

Multimedia is more and more popular in the Internet. However, the largest issue for the success of future multimedia applications is the provision of quality guarantee. In this paper, the performance of a possible framework composed of TFRC transport protocol and RIO queuing mechanism for quality guarantee of multimedia applications is studied. Investigations focus on the fairness comparison of the RIO among TCP flows and TFRC flows with four loss event rate estimate algorithms. It's observed that RIO has bias against TCP flows in some cases. Based on the observation we further explore the impact of RIO parameters on the fairness of TFRC flows and TCP flows. It's observed that in the case of RIO with conservative parameters, there is a higher fairness for TCP flows and TFRC flows.
