N2 - Peripheral nerve catheter techniques provide pain relief on movement for upper and lower limb arthroplasty and limb amputation and improve limb blood flow. Perineural infusion of local anaesthetic minimizes peri-operative opioid consumption and, in doing so, reduces opioid-related side-effects. Good pain relief accelerates rehabilitation and has the potential to reduce hospital length of stay. However, few studies have investigated the effect of perineural infusion on long-term functional outcomes.
