    Abstract

Peripheral nerve catheter techniques provide pain relief on movement for upper and lower limb arthroplasty and limb amputation and improve limb blood flow. Perineural infusion of local anaesthetic minimizes peri-operative opioid consumption and, in doing so, reduces opioid-related side-effects. Good pain relief accelerates rehabilitation and has the potential to reduce hospital length of stay. However, few studies have investigated the effect of perineural infusion on long-term functional outcomes.
