N2 - This report presents the independent findings of a small-scale qualitative research project, funded by the Scottish Institute for Policing Research (SIPR), that explored the perceptions of young people living in marginalised communities regarding the police. This was particularly focused on the post-pandemic period as it was felt that there was an urgent need to understand the impact of the extension of police powers during that period for all young people, but especially for individuals and communities where relationships with police (and other authority figures) were most fragile in the past. Recent research suggests that young people in such communities have seen pre-existing inequalities exacerbated and magnified by the pandemic (McCluskey et al. 2023).
