This commissioned installation/portrait was a direct result of the ‘Portrait of Hugh MacDiarmid’ National Galleries of Scotland/RSA commission. The research questions are similar to that commission in the sense of the public-facing nature of the project, but different in terms of the context of the installation (Museum rather than Gallery) and public perception of the subject.

N2 - To commemorate the centenary of Scottish-American industrialist and philanthropistAndrew Carnegie’s death, the Carnegie Dunfermline Trust commissioned a portrait of Carnegie to be created on-site at the Andrew Carnegie Birthplace Museum between 3 October and 25 November, 2019. The process took place in public view and groups of visitors were invited to come and see the portrait taking shape as well as to cast their vote on what museum artefact should be included in the work.
