Quality assurance has over recent years become a key issue on the political agenda of the European Commission, with individual member states also looking at the implementation of quality control mechanisms. Enhancing the quality and effectiveness of education and training systems across Europe is one of the three main objectives of the Lisbon process. While quality control measures are widely considered to play an important role in the measure of effectiveness in teacher education, how such control is to be introduced, administered and evaluated remains unclear. Further, whose interests are served in a quality assurance agenda; how such an agenda impacts on the way students learn and teachers teach, and what role social inclusion are all key issues which need to be addressed. Building on an EERA-funded colloquium on quality assurance in teacher education (Dublin, June 2010), this workshop, jointly facilitated by Judith Harford (Network 10) and Brian Hudson (Network 27) will examine some of these questions.; The European Conference on Educational Research 2010, ECER 2010 ; Conference date: 25-08-2010 Through 27-08-2010",
