Abstract
This article aims to analyse how the territoriality of drug trafficking in favelas is expressed in funk lyrics. Those songs represent a unique urban culture produced for poor youth living in favelas. It reveals a daily reality that goes overlooked by most people which produces negative effects among favela residents, especially young people. For that, it was developed an analysis of fifty lyrics of “forbidden funk” style songs to understand the place occupied by the dimension of territoriality among three criminal groups working in the drug trafficking. In those funk songs, territory was highlighted as an important category of analysis which shows the social dynamic that these gangs develop inside favelas creating (in) visible borders for residents that are under control of these groups and their own rules to coexist. Here we understand that through funk lyrics it is possible to “read” some aspects of the consequences of this territoriality of drug trafficking in the life, social representation
and social practices of favelas residents.
and social practices of favelas residents.
