    Abstract

    It would seem that social networking sites such as MySpace, Facebook, and Bebo are radically reworking a range of social relations through the development of vast and complex online communities. These user-generated networks enable online" friends" to meet up and interact through flexible profile-based sites incorporating personal information, photographs, thoughtjournals, music uploads, status reports, and so on. One of the most radical and widely referenced (in the popular press) of these social networking sites is the 3-D virtual world of Second Life
