    Abstract

A collaborative artist book project commissioned by Pamela Crowe of 23 Press, designed by Chaosmos Studio (Joseph Haigh and Helena Gregory).

In early 2022 members of the Elders Group at the Cardigan Community Centre in Leeds began to explore publishing a book of seven short circular walks through the local area. The group explored the walks during their weekly Tuesday morning sessions, taking photographs, making audio recordings, creating artwork and checking the routes as they travelled. Going on the walks created opportunities to talk and spend time together, discover new paths and views and appreciate the landscape of our urban community.

The walks in this book have all been devised and written by group member Rob Baker and each one begins and ends at the Cardigan Community Centre, taking in a different route through the surrounding areas of Hyde Park, Headingley, Kirkstall and Burley.

The walk timings are based on a leisurely walking pace and allow for short breaks to stop and take in the surroundings.

Supported by Leeds Community Foundation and Arts Council England as part of Leeds Year of Culture 2023.
