Abstract

This paper aims to provide nursing care to a pregnant woman who collects recyclable materials in light of the “Theory of Basic Human Needs” by Wanda Horta de Aguiar. This is a case study developed through nursing history, diagnosis, planning, implementation and assessment based on the proposed interventions. Six visits were made to the Association of Recyclers, which is located in Alto da Boa Vista neighbourhood, in the city of Santa Maria, RS. Based on the nursing process, it was found that there was a lack of financial and cultural conditions on behalf of the pregnant woman as well as her own negligence, which contributed to her poor health. It was concluded that the Systematization of Nursing Care was of great importance to recognize the pregnant woman’s profile and, based on that, draw a care plan which focuses on specific guidance as well as on the emancipation process of this pregnant woman, thus empowering her.
