Abstract
The audio piece was commissioned as an experimental ‘soundscape’ to complement the exhibition. In doing so, it facilitates a more immersive experience of the historical, social, and cultural concepts of this project. Field-recordings undertaken around Scotland form the basis of the material gathered for this piece, and include coastal sounds, local wildlife, and contemporary industry. Anonymised excerpts from an interview with an individual who uses drugs, alongside sourced recordings of mining activity, underpin the atmosphere of the soundscape. Novel processing of recordings in the composition are placed in varying positions to evoke different environments, both physical and internal. The soundscape was created by Dr Holly Warner.
